Healthcare worker comes home to Chester

Moving from an old Victorian home in Didsbury, to a new build home near Chester, has ended worries about repairs and renovations for one homeowner.

Charlotte was the first to reserve a new home at College Park in Christleton, a development by Castle Green Homes.

“I’d lived in a four-bedroom semi-detached Victorian house, in Didsbury, close to all the village amenities, for 10 years when I decided I wanted a change of lifestyle. I wanted to move to somewhere I could enjoy country walks and pubs, rather than bars and restaurants,” she explained.

Having grown up in Chester, Charlotte moved to Manchester as a student more than 20 years ago. She had “a light bulb moment” when she decided to move back “home” and began planning the move, including selling her old home and looking for somewhere else to live.

“It’s a big jump to move areas and so I wanted to get my head in the right place and mentally prepare myself, along with preparing my house for sale,” Charlotte, a healthcare professional, explained.

“I really wanted a country cottage, but when I started looking for houses, a few needed a lot of work doing to them and were listed. I didn’t want a massive project or to spend £100,000 to do the work. Realistically it didn’t add up.”

While searching for a new home she discovered Castle Green Homes had plans to develop part of the former University of Law Chester Campus in Christleton to provide 24 new homes.

“When College Park came up, it ticked all the boxes. My family live in this part of Cheshire, so I already knew the area. The idea of living on a small development and being part of a little community appealed to me,” Charlotte said.

In her new home, the lounge is at the front, with feature bay window.

The kitchen, dining and family room spans the width of the rear of the property. Two windows and bi-fold doors offer lots of natural light and help emphasise the spaciousness of what is destined to be the heart of the home.

A utility and cloakroom complete the ground floor.

Upstairs, the principal bedroom, en-suite and dressing room, spans the entire front of the property, with a bay window providing natural light.

Bedroom two also benefits an en-suite, meaning the family bathroom serves just two of the four bedrooms in this home.

“When I saw the floor plans this house worked for me,” Charlotte said. “I liked the nice big open plan kitchen and dining area and the main bedroom with dressing room and en-suite. One of the bedrooms will be used as a study.”

It’s the first new build home Charlotte has bought, and she enjoyed being able to put her own stamp on the property before it was built.

“Castle Green let me change the design of the kitchen so instead of having two ovens side by side, I have an oven and a microwave, plus a big larder cupboard,” she explained.

Current availability at College Park includes a choice of three, four and five-bedroom homes, with prices from £694,995.
