Transforming The Marlow show home with these IKEA hacks

Tuesday, 29th March 2022

We all love bespoke furniture, but what we don’t love is the price tag that comes with it. With the cost of living reaching eye watering heights, saving money is key in today’s world. Especially if you’re moving into your shiny new build home. But, what if we told you that a piece of flat pack furniture from IKEA can turn into that bespoke piece you’ve always dreamed of?

With our latest development, Willow Fields, just a stone’s throw from IKEA Warrington, Cheshire, we worked on a IKEA hacks brief with Lifestyle Interiors to transform The Marlow. The outcome was fantastic…

Standout with this Floating TV unit…

Have you always dreamed of owning a floating TV unit that provides space and doesn’t cost the earth? If the answer is yes, then you’ve come to the right place. Our IKEA hack for creating a stylish floating TV unit is all you need for inspiration and it’s very cost effective!

Taking two IKEA Besta units along with Besta suspension rails, we were able to fashion a stylish floating TV unit that creates the ultimate centrepiece in your lounge. Not only does this provide you with ample storage space, but you can hide away all those unruly wires from sight. Want to create more of a feature? Why not add accent prints or stand out accessories in contemporary style, by offsetting IKEA Lack shelves to provide additional surfaces.

Transform your kitchen diner with this dining bench…

Kitchen diners are all the rage at the moment and we can definitely see why. You have space to cook, space for entertaining and a space for the whole family. The modern kitchen has transformed from just cupboards and appliances to a place for the whole family to enjoy. However, this can cause a lack of storage in smaller homes. With this IKEA hack we are sure to solve that issue.

Using a slightly larger IKEA Besta unit, we were able to create the ultimate dining bench suitable for any kitchen. By attaching eight Stubbarb legs to the bottom of the unit, we transformed this piece into a bespoke bench with plenty of storage available behind its doors. To further enhance your dining bench, why not add bespoke seating pads for ultimate comfort. Be creative, find fabrics to suit the theme of your kitchen or let your imagination run wild. So, there you have it, a comfortable, yet practical dining bench ready for entertaining at half the price of a bespoke piece.

Add this flawless floating dressing table to your bedroom…

It’s all too easy to search far and wide for a floating dressing table, possibly to find they’re extremely difficult to fit or they don’t suit the aesthetics of your bedroom. Search no more, we have an IKEA hack that’s isn’t complex to make and will save you time and effort.

Using an IKEA Lagkapten table top fixed to the wall using universal L brackets we managed to create a simple yet fabulous floating dressing table. To create a unique layered look whilst adding further support, the floating dressing table sits slightly over a Malm chest of drawers. Sometimes simplicity works wonders and in The Marlow’s case, it has done just that with this floating dressing table hack.

A bespoke seating area with a twist…

Making a bespoke seating area that completely transforms the look and feel of a room sounds pricey right? Not necessarily, and here’s why with this IKEA hack.

To make the frame of this charming seating area, we used two Gersby bookcases alternatively you can use Billy bookcases either side of a 120cm Besta unit. To give this unit a bespoke feel, we used a scribing tool to draw the exact profile of the skirting, allowing the unit to sit flush against the wall. We then opted for a custom made mirror to sit between the shelves, creating a spacious illusion; why not swap the mirror for a pin board and let your ideas flourish whilst relaxing on your bespoke seating area? Your seating area wouldn’t be complete without a custom made seat pad, sitting nicely over the Besta unit. Finally, we used a 190cm Lack shelf cut to size to connect the seating area together. The results are amazing!
